How can I use Explorer to meet the Tech
Standards?

Microsoft Internet Explorer
How to print from a web page
You can print just the
selection you want, instead of ads or other unnecessary information:
Click File,
Print, then in the Print window, click the SELECTION button before you
print! |
How to
"bookmark" a page You can "bookmark"
favorite sites by using Favorites in Explorer
Click
Favorites>Add Favorites (either with the icon or drop-down menu at top of
browser) |
How to save a
web page You can use Explorer's Offline
feature to save web pages you MUST have NOW.
Option 1: Click
File>Save As
Option 2: Add to
Favorites>Checkmark the MAKE AVAILABLE OFFLINE box |
How to print a
page of links from a website You can
print a table of links from a website without printing the entire site.
File>Print>Under Options, Checkmark PRINT
TABLE OF LINKS |
How to change
toolbars You can change which toolbar
options you want shown
View>Toolbars>Customize>Then, click the icons
you want to take out and hit the REMOVE button (This does not delete
them; it merely hides them. History and Print are good to hide, so
students can't easily access them. I can still access the information
to track where they've been recently - View>Explorer Bar>History.
Microsoft's Proxy on our county servers details even more information. |
How to export
your Favorites to another computer You
can "export" your Favorites and create a new file as a page of links in
HTML.
With Explorer open, click
File>Import/Export>Then follow the wizard. It allows you to select the
folders to take and select the location where you want to save them by
clicking Browse. |
How to set Home
Page Tools>Internet Options>Type in the
URL (or Use Current if that page is loaded) |
How to purge
your browser's cache A cache is a place
in the computer's memory that temporarily stores the web pages you visit.
If your cache is full, pages can take a longer time to load, because your
browser has to look through numerous files to find and reload the page.
Clearing the cache also insures that you get the most recent version of a
page. Another reason to clear these files is that they take up space
on your hard drive.
With Explorer open, Select Tools from the
Main Menu>Internet Options>In the section for Temporary Internet Files,
click on Delete Files>Then click OK. |

How can I use Microsoft Word to
meet the Tech Standards?

Microsoft Word
Word
offers a wealth of possibilities as an integration tool.
In addition to its use as a teaching and learning tool to create a
technology-enriched curriculum for students at any grade level, its use by
teachers for communications, planning, and record keeping illustrate ways to
meet the NCLB standards. You can create professional letters,
envelopes, reports, lesson plan templates, seating charts, schedules,
checklists, calendar, a table of hyperlinks for guided search on the
Internet, posters, and other documents. You can use the FILE>SAVE
AS>SAVE AS WEBPAGE feature to create a web page that you can upload to your
school website or a free homepage online. Here are some suggestions
and sites for you to peruse:

List your resources. If you
need training on how to use any of them, add them to your ITP and ask
